Ms. April Aston received a B.B.A. from Texas Tech University and completed her Educator Certification at Texas A & M University Commerce. She has taught World History 9-12 (AP®, Pre-AP, and on-level) for fourteen years. She has served as an AP National Reader for the College Board® for two years. April has also participated in a summer program at Oxford University.
Social Studies Presenters
Mr. Jacob Duce earned his B.A. from the University of North Texas and his M.Ed. degree from Concordia University. He taught World Geography and AP® US History for six years. He is currently in administration.
Mr. Gabe Fain earned a B.A. in Historical Studies from the University of Texas at Dallas and an M.S. in Modern European History from the University of North Texas. He is the Social Studies Department Chair, College Board® Academy Assembly Delegate, teaches AP® World and European History, and coaches Academic Decathlon at Frisco Heritage High School. In his 16 year career, he has also taught English, World Geography, Humanities, and AP US History, held the position of Coordinator of Gifted and Talented for Plano ISD, served as a College BoardConsultant, and is an AP National Reader and Table Leader.
Ms. Chris Hernandez earned her B.A. from Sam Houston State University. She has been teaching for 9 years. She has taught World History, World Geography (Sheltered, On-level, and Pre-AP). She currently writes curriculum for Frisco ISD.
Mr. Joshua Hofford earned his B.A. from California State University, Sacramento and his Master's degree from Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary. He has taught Social Science 8-12 (On-Level World Geography, World History, US History, US Government and Economics and AP® World History) for 8 years. Joshua has served as an AP National Reader, question writer for ETS®, and curriculum writer for Birdville ISD. In addition, he has been an AVID® National Conference presenter and trainer. He is currently the Social Studies Department Chair at Haltom High School where he also teaches APWorld History and On-Level World History.
Mr. John Laine received a B.A. from The University of Texas at Dallas. He has taught various Social Studies courses including AP® World History for 14 years. He currently serves as the Social Studies Instructional Coach for Wakeland High School and district curriculum writer in Frisco ISD. John has vast experience as a test question writer as he has written for the AP® World History Exam, SATII, and the Texas Social Studies Teacher Certification Test. Additionally, John serves as an AP National Reader and Table Leader for the College Board. ®
Mrs. Pier Larsen earned her B.A of English and History at The University of North Texas. After receiving a James Madison Fellowship, she completed her M.A in History at The University of North Texas. She has 14 years of teaching experience including on-level and Pre AP World and U.S. History. She taught AP® U.S. History for 6 years and was an AP® Reader for the College Board® for 3 years before becoming the Director of Social Studies for Carrollton-Farmers Branch.
Mr. Paul Philp has a B.S. in Foreign Service from Georgetown University, a teaching certificate from the University of Texas in Dallas, and a Master’s of Art in Modern History from Texas A&M University - Commerce. He is a teacher and was curriculum coordinator for 23 years including 20 years of AP® courses and nine years in community college. Paul is currently a consultant for Advanced Placement® World History and a national grader for five years. Publications include the study guide for Stearn’s World Civilizations and a collaborative study of the Industrial Revolution. He was associate editor for Berkshire’s Encyclopedia of World History.
Mr. Jeremiah Rush earned a B.S.E. from Missouri Southern University and a M.Ed. in Curriculum Development from the University of Texas at El Paso. He has taught World Geography (On-Level, Pre-AP, and AP® Human Geography) for 17 years. He has helped develop World Geography curriculum in both the El Paso ISD and currently with Frisco ISD.
Mrs. Anda Lee Seat earned her degrees from Midwestern State University and University of Houston. She has taught in the College Board’s Advanced Placement Program® for 20 of her 27 years of teaching experience. Mrs. Seat is currently teaching Advanced Placement ® World History and serves as Department Chair for Social Studies at Flower Mound High School in Lewisville ISD. She also is a AP® National Reader and Table Leader.
